Selling Your First Piece Of Art 🖌

After all of your endless promotion, ads, instagram pics, Facebook updates… it happens; you sell your first print! 🤘

First off.. congratulations!! 🍾🎉

So now what!?

Make it an amazing experience for your new customer, so they don’t stop talking about you and your art!

The first one is always most important! Make sure you get a cracking photo of your original piece (if it is a print), get that sent off as soon as possible! The last thing you want to do is make someone wait!

Packaging? I went for a flat magnetised presentation box. Wrapped the print in tissue paper. Had some stickers made, to throw in with orders. Don’t forget a couple of business cards, so they can share you around! Make sure you bubble wrap well, and then protect it more with tissue paper or packaging paper – sticking ‘fragile’ and ‘do not bend’ on there is always a good idea (couriers are not delicate people), and away you go!

It’s always an amazing feeling when someone invests in your art. They must look at it the same way you do; with love.

Carry on with what you have been doing and hopefully the push in momentum, will bring about more creations!

Keep up the good work,

Luke Gevaux

Why Artists Should Get Business Cards

Business cards? Should you bother? … Well, yes!

Think of business cards as easy, affordable promotion.

Design them based around your artwork, so people can instantly see your works – list your social media links, a website if you have one, phone number so people can contact you regarding your artwork – make them personal. You want someone to put it in their wallet and in a week or a months time, discover it, and think ‘wow, I forgot I had that, looks awesome, I’ll check it out’

Keep them on you all the time. You never know who you will meet that day. If your artwork is displayed somewhere, give them some cards to place near your art.

You’ll be surprised how many people view your site or follow you on instagram from this.

I got mine from MOO! Easy to design and deliver fast!

Who!?

“Who is this dude?”

Well… What am I doing here would probably be more relevant…

I will aim to give you useful insights into the life of the everyday artist trying to get by with a ‘normal’ job, two kids, a wife and a dog (he is a cute frenchie – pics to come). The end aim for anyone who creates, I think, is to make at least some money from it – if not, the ultimate goal of living off of your art.

To answer the first question…

Saying my name is Luke and I am an artist is a start, I guess. Click here to view my work. I have started ‘trying’ to make a go of making my artwork known and hope to one day make enough to lead a comfortable life.

I will update you with my personal experiences along the path to becoming a full time artist, whilst giving advice on things I did right and the (many) things I did wrong.

Much love,

Luke Gevaux
